DESCRIPTION:RIDING TO EDUCATE CHILDREN IN AFRICA \nFor one of the best cycle rides ever\, with a great route\, great countryside\, great people and for a great purpose…. Join us on the Great Western Ride this September! \nDATES | Sunday 25th September to Sunday 2nd October 2016. \nTHE RIDE | 8 Days and 888 kilometres or an average daily distance of 110.9km per day – Sleep overnight at Bathurst on Saturday 24th September 2016 with the first group leaving at 7.30 am Sunday 25th. See full itinerary at the link: Great Western Ride Itinerary. \nHOW DO I GET INVOLVED? |  \n1) Sign up and set up your fundraising page: The first step to sign up is to contact Jim Blaxland on j.bx@bigpond.com or 0409 590 468. \n2) Sponsor a rider at our fundraising page*: Each registered rider has their own fundraising page. As the Trust is run by volunteers virtually 100% of funds raised go directly to projects on the ground. \nRIDE COSTS | $585 for cyclists completing the 8 day ride or $299 for support crew. But you can also ride for FREE! Click here to find out more: Ride for free! \nNote: Part time riding is available at a rate of $100 per day or part day. \nOUR GOAL | To raise awareness and fundraise for the Katoke – Lweru Secondary in Katoke\, Tanzania. Our fundraising target is $80\,000 which will provide the necessary funds to complete the Staff Accommodation project which will house many teachers in 2017. Sketches of the Staff Accommodation project and it’s location in the broader School Master plan are shown below.\n \n \nTRANSPORT | Transport to and from the start and finish of the ride is each participants own responsibility and cost. \nACCOMMODATION | Each participant will need to bring their own Airbed (Inflation Pumps are provided) and Sleeping Bag. Our accommodation will be in a variety of halls – schools\, churches\, recreation centres etc. Showers are also arranged daily. \nMEALS | Breakfast\, Morning Tea\, Dinner\, on road ride snacks and fruit is provided to keep you going. For evening dinners you are provided with a generous & wholesome two courses\, a main and dessert\, anything else you may feel like eating or drinking at dinner\, including beverages\, is at your own expense. \nOTHER | We also provide track pumps\, spare wheels\, used tyres for temporary use\, tools\, electric pumps for airbeds\, clothes washing gear\, sunscreen\, hand wash and toiletry items. The ride is fully supported with support vehicles who will carry your luggage\, all you have to do is just get on your bike and ride off with your riding group\, how good and easy is that! \n \nHOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE? | Each rider needs to be proficient\, experienced\, skilful and competent on their bikes to be able to ride as a part of a group of cyclists. Each rider must be able to maintain an average minimum speed of 25 kilometres an hour\, anything less and you will automatically be uplifted in one of our support vehicles. SUMMARY:Lithgow to Bathurst Weekend Fundraising Ride
DESCRIPTION:RIDING TO EDUCATE CHILDREN IN AFRICA \nEducation is the most sustainable form of aid and is the cornerstone of our work. Katoke’s mission is to build healthier and better-educated communities in north-western Tanzania by equipping individuals caught in the poverty trap of subsistence living\, to take charge of\, and continue their own development. \nIn 2016\, the Katoke Trust will be again running the Katoke Cycle Series to raise awareness and funds for communities doing it tough in Tanzania. Our next ride is Lithgow to Bathurst return. \nThere are two ways you can support this initiative\n1. Sign up for ride. Contact Jim Blaxland on j.bx@bigpond.com or 0409 590 468. \n2. As the Trust is run by volunteers virtually 100% of funds raised go directly to projects on the ground. \n  \nROUTE\, DISTANCE\, ELEVATION GRADIENT DETAILS \nDay 1 Saturday 19th March 2016 – Lidsdale to Bathurst plus a lap of Mt Panorama (102-109 km) Day 1 ride route \nDay 2 Sunday 20th March 2016 – Bathurst to Lidsdale (87km) Day 2 ride route.\nNote: The route is on fully sealed roads and mainly on back roads with minimal traffic. However the route does include 4.5km each day on the Great Western Highway and parts of the route are on very narrow shoulders. Cyclists will need to exercise extreme caution throughout the ride but especially in these areas. \n  \nKEY RIDE DETAILS\nRide cost: Weekend rate of $165 includes accommodation\, food and drinks\, support crew supplies (e.g. track pump\, spare tyres\, sunscreen)  (Day 1 only rate is $97.50 including dinner\, and Day 2 only rate is $77.50) \nHow fit do I need to be to ride? There are some good uphills and downhills on this ride and it should only be tackled by regular and experienced cyclists. Riders should be proficient and experienced in riding in a group. Groups will be set based on pace with the slowest group heading off first on Saturday morning. If you would like to discuss your fitness before registering for the ride please contact Jim Blaxland (0409 590 468). \nWhat do I need to bring? Riding gear including a spare tube and puncture kit\, sleeping bag and pillow\, air bed for Saturday night. \nStart and end point of the ride: Marantha Campsite\, Lidsdale. Free overnight parking available. Access on Friday 18th March from 5.30pm til 9pm. \n  \nFURTHER DETAILS ON THE RIDE \n\nSaturday night accommodation is Bathurst High Campus – hot showers available on-site.\nSaturday night dinner includes a main meal and dessert. Beverages to be purchased by cyclists.\nYour luggage will be transported in the support vehicles. Please restrict your luggage to no more than 15kg\nEach cyclist is fully responsible for ensuring they have appropriate health (hospital\, medical\, ambulance) and third party insurance.
